AGAPE is a non-denominational, faith-based mission that works to “fill in the gaps” that currently exist between people in need and the community services available to assist them. Those services, for which the Alcoa Foundation honored us with its Humanitarian Award in 2011, are not limited to but include food relief, household goods assistance, financial assistance for life essential needs, addiction recovery programs, poverty alleviation, and homelessness reduction programs for thousands of underserved people that other county, state, federal, and nonprofit services are not reaching. Our vision is to create and support a just and fair community without poverty, today, tomorrow and forever. Through counseling, education, networking and referral services, we can ensure that families and individuals receive the help they need to get back on their feet after a difficult time, as well as to be successful in the future – ultimately reducing the use of poverty assistance altogether. We have operated 15 programs toward this end, mainly in Columbia and Montour Counties, serving more than 65,000 over our short history. We leverage millions of dollars of in-kind support, partnerships with other local agencies on the ground, and thousands of volunteer hours to make our work possible using as little cash funding as possible.
