The mission of the ALS Association is to discover treatments and a cure for ALS, and to serve, advocate for, and empower people affected by ALS to live their lives to the fullest. The Greater Philadelphia Chapter provides its multitude of programs and services for any individual diagnosed with ALS who lives in the eastern half of Pennsylvania, south and central New Jersey and Delaware. The Chapter has no fee for services. Programs are provided through revenue raised from Walks to Defeat ALS®, special events, individual contributions, corporate giving and private foundations. In the counties of Columbia, Lycoming, Montour, Northumberland, Snyder, and Union who will benefit from the Raise the Region Fundraising event, the ALS Association serves 50 patient families. Clinical care is offered through the Geisinger Bloomsburg ALS Clinic. Families receive vital support and resource assistance by an ALS Association Chapter nurse and social worker to help families face the many practical, emotional and physical challenges as the symptoms of the disease progress.
