Listening Post

2057 Washington Avenue
P.O. Box 231
Lewisburg, PA 17837

• The Lewisburg Listening Post is a daily team group mentoring service that provides a safe, relaxed, and encouraging environment for students at the Linntown Intermediate and Eichhorn Middle schools--where they may speak freely about anything on their minds or in their hearts. Each team of mentors consists of 2 professionally-supported and trained Near-Peer Mentors (Bucknell undergraduates). The Near-Peers’ relative closeness in age to the students being served allows them to relate well to students’ concerns but respond from the perspective of several more years of experience. • The Near-Peers meet with groups of students (average of 7-10 students per session) during lunch periods in a designated Listening Post room at each school. The majority of students that utilize the Listening Post “self-select” (come of their own volition), but students may also be assigned by school guidance counselors, special needs staff, or faculty members to come to the Listening Post for an extra layer of support and assistance. • The Lewisburg Listening Post and its Near-Peer Mentors build trusting relationships with students that facilitate positive peer interaction, development of social, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, and provide primary intervention/prevention by identifying serious issues and making referrals for students to guidance counselors, intervention specialists, and/or administrative staff.
