Established in 1961, the Ruffed Grouse Society is North America’s foremost conservation organization dedicated to preserving our sporting traditions by creating healthy forest habitat for ruffed grouse, American woodcock and other wildlife. The Susquehanna River Valley Chapter covers north-central Pennsylvania and aims to fulfill the healthy forests, abundant wildlife, and sporting traditions mission of the Ruffed Grouse Society within our region. We work with state and regional agencies to help create healthy forests by focusing on projects that result in much needed young forest growth that nearly all woodland wildlife, not just ruffed grouse and American woodcock, utilize and need at some point in their life-cycle. A result of healthy forests, abundant wildlife is the reward for scientific forest management. A benefit to both sportsmen and women and non-sportsmen and women (birders, etc.) alike as non-game wildlife thrive in healthy forests just as much as the game species do. In addition to young forest habitat creation, our mission is to augment the region’s hunting tradition, which also includes opportunities for regional youth to enjoy the outdoors.
