Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society

CSRS’s Mission is to operate a paddlewheel riverboat on Lake Augusta to increase recreation, tourism, and economic development while enhancing appreciation and education on the history and ecology of the Susquehanna River and its community.

Thank you for your interest in our organization. We believe the Susquehanna River at Lake Augusta is grossly underutilized, and underappreciated. The majority of Central Pennsylvanians are unaware of the historic magnitude of this body of water that flows through our backyard. The rich history of the Susquehanna River and its significance to the people of this region for thousands of years isn’t even taught in our local schools. The river wall in Sunbury, though it serves a great purpose, really disconnects people from the river to the point many don’t even remember it is there. 

We, the Central Susquehanna Riverboat Society (CSRS), plan on changing this! By providing the public access to the river through our daily educational riverboat cruises and summer educational workshops, we will immerse the public in the wealth of knowledge and history that so many enthusiastic educators and historians are thirsting to share. 

An additional necessity our area has is the need for something of significance to have a regional pull and draw travel and tourism dollars here. The installation of the dam and the creation of Lake Augusta is an asset to our area. However, it only pulls boat owners to the region, which is a slim majority of the public. Having a one-hundred-plus passenger vessel on Lake Augusta will allow everyone, no matter what their financial status is, to be able to enjoy the beauty and fun of the Susquehanna River. 

Your donations will assist in the completion of the riverboat hull and cabin construction, along with purchasing vital supplies needed to pass US Coast Guard approvals such as a fire suppression system, bilge pump, electrical wiring and panels, holding tanks, etc.
