Hobo's Home is a nonprofit 501c3 no-kill cat rescue located in Tioga County, PA!

Our Story:

Hobo's Home was started from the concept that a spark of kindness from strangers can change lives.

Our founder, Jesse Nice, got involved in animal rescue because of seeing the need with her own eyes, having a love for animals, and realizing that there were not enough resources in Tioga County for the number of homeless animals that existed... especially for cats! Hobo's Home is named after a real cat, Hobo, which our founder met many years ago while in college! After moving into a trailer park in Mansfield, PA, Jesse quickly realized there was a huge cat overpopulation problem. It was at this trailer park that she met Hobo, among others. Hobo was said to be a neighbor’s cat but was really just an outdoor cat that ran from everybody until he learned to trust her. He would go from home to home looking for food. He eventually ended up on Jesse's deck in the wintertime with a broken leg at which point she took him to the vet and then adopted him as her own. The neighbor that Hobo had been said to belong to had moved away and had left Hobo behind and in poor condition. Hobo was an amazing companion but there are many more “Hobos” out there that are deserving of help and a home. In his honor, Jesse's desire is to carry on Hobo's legacy and make people realize that strays don’t have to be strays and that they have a special place and purpose in this world! Every stray, like Hobo, has a story. Their stories are worthy of being told and appreciated. We have to help them tell their stories because they can’t speak for themselves!

Hobo's Home was founded on May 8, 2020 when the Covid-19 pandemic had first started. Our founder suddenly found herself working from home or without work for 6 consecutive months so she decided to make good use of her time and dive into a lifelong dream of founding an animal rescue devoted to cats! Today, Hobo's Home is located on the founder's family property as well as in foster homes. We are STRICTLY COMMITTED to exclusively helping the cats and kittens of Tioga County, PA at this time as there are very few resources in this area for homeless animals and the overpopulation of cats is a serious problem in this county! WE ARE A 100% VOLUNTEER-RUN ORGANIZATION WITHOUT ANY PAID EMPLOYEES SO EVERY CENT THAT YOU DONATE GOES DIRECTLY TO THE CARE OF OUR ANIMALS!!! Hobo's Home takes in primarily stray and otherwise homeless cats. Our adoptable pets are advertised on Petfinder.com, Adoptapet.com, and on our Facebook Page after being prepared for adoption. Appointments are set up to meet pets for potential adopters after submitting an application and being approved. Thanks to the support of our sponsors, we are now offering FREE adoptions to veterans as well as to individuals who are seeking to adopt an ESA (Emotional Support Animal) with appropriate documentation provided. Before adoption, cats and kittens are spayed/neutered, vaccinated, dewormed, flea treated, FIV/FeLV/HW Tested negative, and microchipped. Each cat taken in costs approximately $150-200 in basic vet care to get prepared for adoption if they are not sick or injured upon intake. (If they are sick or injured, cost can be any amount ABOVE that!) Hobo's Home is a small, nonprofit 501c3 rescue that has the goal to home and re-home at-risk cats as well as provide TNR assistance to individuals in need as funding allows. We work with other animal rescue groups to prevent cruelty and neglect to animals and to assure lifetime safe and secure homes to at-risk animals, primarily cats. Being a new rescue, Hobo's Home operates off of a small budget and every penny counts and allows us to take in cats in need!
