Hughesville Area Public Library

A nonprofit organization

Help us reach our goal of $6,000! Every donation is appreciated.

In 1940, Miss Alice Wheelock opened a library in her home which became the foundation of the now beloved and well-established Hughesville Area Public Library. In 1941, the collection was moved to the borough building on Water Street, allowing the library to grow and add treasured classics like Nancy Drew, the Bobbsey Twins and Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. Through the commitment and determination of many community members such as Miss Wheelock, the Hughesville Library was able to become a home for information and inspiration for all the area's residents.

Continuing with the library's mission to connect people with information to encourage a lifetime of learning, the Hughesville Library moved in 2006 to its current location on South Fifth Avenue. The board of trustees worked tirelessly to raise the funds to build a new library. The collection has expanded to include audiobooks, DVDs and graphic novels. There is space for community events and meetings, public computers to use, and access to a wide variety of newspapers and magazines. Almost 27,000 items circulated last year and almost 15,000 people used the computers and free Wi-Fi provided by the library.

Your tax-deductible donation - no matter its size - will benefit the library and continue to enrich the community by allowing us to offer essential services including but not limited to technology and internet access, programs for all ages and circulation of materials beyond books.

Beautiful facility, friendly staff! A nice meeting place.

This library is so well kept! The building is of new construction and was a great addition to Hughesville years ago! The staff there is friendly and they offer a great selection of books, magazines, movies and a computer lab. Interior and exterior of the library are very cleanly and nice to look at!

My 3 year old son loves working on the craft projects that they have on Tuesdays here.

We always have the best time at the library and they always let my kids join in on the classes. Today we made book wreaths and it was so much fun! The whole staff there is awesome!!!

Wonderful place for a small community. People that work there are kind and helpful.

Today we attended preschool time and had a blast! Thanks again for having us!! We will be back!!
