Lewisburg Neighborhoods works with dedicated volunteers and our partners at Lewisburg Borough, Bucknell, and surrounding communities to preserve natural settings and streetscapes, strengthen ties among neighbors, and improve the quality of life in our region. We were founded to plan and implement projects that make Lewisburg a more livable and safe place for its residents and visitors.

Since its inception, Lewisburg Neighborhoods has helped bring in over $4 million in grant funds to meet those goals. These grants funded the stream-bank restoration, mixed-use path, the nature-play project in Hufnagle Park, the repair of the stone bridge abutment in Soldiers Park, and contributed to funding the development of the Piers Art Park.

Many Lewisburg Neighborhoods projects are now established features of Lewisburg and the region:

  • The Bull Run Greenway Plan (Kidsburg, Hufnagle, the Piers)
  • The Polar Bear Plunge, Parade, and Plungefest Party
  • Moveable Adirondack chairs in Hufnagle Park and Mariah’s Garden
  • An annual Road Holiday to create a one-day public promenade and river walk along River Road north of downtown
  • Slow-roll community bike rides along the rail trail and through the Borough
  • Pedestrian signs at major crosswalks to increase public safety
  • Conservation efforts including river and community litter cleanups; tree planting at Wolfe Field and Lewisburg Landing; and removing invasive plant species from along the river bank in Mariah's Garden and Lewisburg Landing
  • Improving the condition of and access to the river, including a small fleet of kayaks and canoes available to borrow for paddling on the Susquehanna
  • Reformed zoning regulations to encourage sustainable development, including housing, in Lewisburg Borough that are models for the region

In addition to these ongoing projects, Lewisburg Neighborhoods' activities for 2025 include some important new initiatives:

  • Developing a revolving-loan fund to help residents and businesses prepare for flooding
  • Working with Rabbit Transit to construct a bus shelter adjacent to Hufnagle Park
  • Distributing a handbook of civic and service information for residents and newcomers to the area

Your contribution will support the work Lewisburg Neighborhoods does to help the borough grow and improve.  Give today for a stronger, more sustainable, and more engaging community!
