In 2025, Susquehanna Health Foundation is dedicated to raising funding for UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport, supporting key initiatives such as upgrading our linear accelerator for radiation oncology, offering cooling cap therapy, and providing lunches during chemotherapy for patients and their support persons.

At UPMC, we provide patients with enhanced access to renowned cancer specialists, groundbreaking immunotherapy research, more than 500 leading-edge clinical trials, and the latest advancements in cancer detection and treatment technology.

Enhancing Local Cancer Care

TrueBeam Linear Accelerator
About 50% of people with cancer have some type of radiation during their cancer treatment. 

At UPMC Hillman Cancer Center in Williamsport, we deliver advanced radiation oncology services. In 2024, 675 new patients from a 12-county region began treatment at our Williamsport location, totaling nearly 8,000 treatments annually, with 20% being non-oncologic cases, like osteoarthritis, receiving Low-Dose Radiotherapy.

To further enhance care, we aim to replace the Varian Trilogy with the cutting-edge Varian TrueBeam linear accelerator, offering:

• Faster Treatments: Higher dose rate and automation to minimize patient movement reduces appointment times and offers a more comfortable patient experience.
• Ultraprecision: Advanced imaging and positioning techniques focus radiation on tumors, improving accuracy and outcomes.

TrueBeam's state-of-the-art technology ensures faster, more precise, and comfortable treatments, enhancing patient care and outcomes.

Cooling Cap Therapy
These 100% donor-funded cooling caps, which help reduce hair loss during chemotherapy, have helped more than 160 local patients since 2021.

Lunch for Patients and Support Persons
Donations enable the Cancer Center to provide lunches for patients undergoing chemotherapy and for their support person. This program helps ease the financial burden and ensures loved ones can remain by the patient's side throughout treatment without the need to leave for a meal.
