The Pennsylvania SPCA is the state's oldest, largest, and most comprehensive animal welfare organization. Our organization was founded in 1867 in response to the pervasive abuse of Philadelphia's city working horses. Over 157 years later, our foundational roots have become a core pillar in our work today. We are a leader in progressive animal welfare efforts, including animal sheltering, humane education, animal law enforcement investigations, and affordable veterinary care to the public.
Why donate to our lifesaving mission?
The Pennsylvania SPCA Danville Center placed nearly 900 animals in 2024.
We operate under a no-kill philosophy, with a 97% live release rate.
We completed 1,250+ TNR (trap neuter release) surgeries last year to help manage community feral cat populations.
Our shelter is a haven to local strays. Last year our site sheltered nearly 400 stray animals. We played an integral part in reuniting local strays with their owners and giving them a second chance at finding a loving home.
Our low cost spay/neuter clinic provides essential affordable surgery packages to the public and regular low cost vaccine clinics. We are committed to keeping public pets happy and healthy.
The Pennsylvania SPCA Animal Law Enforcement team oversees cruelty & neglect investigations in 18 counties across Pennsylvania.
We offer a successful free pet food pantry to the community to help owners keep pets in their homes during difficult times.
We do not receive any funding from the state or local governments. We rely solely on generous donations from the public to do the work we do.
